Rainbow Gravity—named for a theory in quantum physics that challenges the Big Bang and suggests time stretches back infinitely—marks Scott Petito’s bold statement as a composer-bandleader.

Press & Reviews
The murderer's row of fusioneers that Petito assembled is both exciting and foreboding—but the album turns out surprisingly tight, thanks in no small part to Petito's writing. His compositions are impressive for the control they effect... a delicacy that's in short supply in the fusion universe.
A fresh and vibrant album... Although there are many eloquent, tasteful and technically thrilling bass solos throughout Rainbow Gravity, often on piccolo or fretless versions of the instrument, the album is not just a conduit for bass brilliance—it ebbs and flows along its musical journey.
A recording project burning with talent and excitement. It's beautiful music with memorable arrangements. There is not one bad tune on this entire recording—a production of pure funk and contemporary musicality played by some of the top modern jazz players in the business.
Recorded at NRS Recording Studio near Woodstock, NY, Petito assembled a who’s-who of fusion royalty: four legendary drummers (Jack DeJohnette, Peter Erskine, Simon Phillips, Omar Hakim), saxophonist Bob Mintzer, vibraphonist Mike Mainieri, and keyboardists Rachel Z, David Sancious, and Warren Bernhardt.
The result is an album that channels the electric experiments of Miles Davis’s In a Silent Way and Bitches Brew era while drawing from the rhythmic complexity of the Mahavishnu Orchestra and Weather Report. Yet this isn’t nostalgic fusion—it’s a forward-thinking collection that moves from the Prince-like funk of “Sly-Fi” to the eerie, sparse soundscape of “Dark Pools” to the trance-inducing harmonics of “Symbol Bells.”
Petito’s bass work throughout reveals influences from Jaco Pastorius in his fretless phrasing, while his piccolo bass solos offer a distinctive voice that sometimes blurs the line between bass and guitar. He doesn’t just play—he wrote, produced, engineered, mixed, and mastered the entire album, demonstrating the full scope of his capabilities as both musician and studio craftsman.
